The Perfect Father A perfect father. Is that possible? If you are about to become a father perhaps it is your goal to be a great one. We hope it is. No other job on earth is as important as being a father. Being a great father means you step up to the plate, love, and care for your son or daughter. It means commitment. Above all, it means sacrifice. A perfect father is willing to make sacrifices for his children. We want to help you see that. The first thing any father needs to know is that it's not possible to be a perfect father. What? Why not? Well, there is only one perfect father and that is God Himself. God. The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:48 that "...your Father which is in heaven is perfect." The Perfect Father tells us that He does not approve of abortion. We are told in Matthew 18:14 "...it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish." We are to love and cherish the precious babies that He blesses us with--before and after birth. The only death that our Heavenly Father ever approved of was the death of His own son, Jesus. He did nothing to stop His own son from dying. In fact, He planned it. His Son Jesus was the ultimate Sacrifice. What? Why would a Perfect Father want to see His only Son die? Would a perfect father ever allow someone to hurt his own son when he had the power to stop it? God did. He not only let men hurt, beat and spit on His Son, He watched while they nailed Him to a wooden cross and tortured Him until He died there. Why would the Perfect Father let that happen? Because He loved you and me more than we can understand. What? Us? John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world (us), that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." You see, God is perfect and holy and we are sinners. Romans 3:23 says "...all have sinned and come short of the glory of God...". We aren't perfect and aren't capable of being perfect. However, God loves us and He wants to have a personal relationship with every one of us, but our sin stands in the way. And sin comes with a high price. It has to be paid for, as we see in Romans 6:23, "..the wages of sin is death." Death is what we earn by sinning. That means eternal death. Eternal punishment. That's the bad news. But the good news is found in the second half of that same verse, "...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." God has offered us the free gift of eternal life through the death of His Son Jesus. Our sin died with Him that day. He paid the price for your sin and mine. But three days later Jesus arose from the grave and conquered death. His death and resurrection provide life for us and give us a way to have a personal relationship with God. That's what it means to be "saved". We can be saved from our sins. Accepting this free gift means accepting and inviting Jesus into your heart. That's salvation. Our sin has been paid for by the Perfect Son, Jesus Christ, and His resurrection gives us eternal life. So what's the catch? There's no catch. For a gift to be a gift you only have to receive it and accept it. How do we do that? It's easy--
